Barış Önder

Founder of an electronics manufacturing plant; mentor for hardware startups moving to serial production.

Barış Önder has managed the move from prototype to serial production of more than 300 hardware products at the electronics board manufacturing plant he founded in 2004. At Çimlen he mentors hardware startups on design for manufacturing (DFM), supply chain and cost.

What he knows

He knows why a product that works as a prototype fails in serial production: component availability, test fixtures, certification lead times and minimum order quantities. He teaches founders to draw up a realistic budget and timeline for the first 1,000-unit pilot run.

Topics

  • Bill of materials (BOM) cost optimisation
  • Supplier selection and minimum order strategy
  • Preparing for CE and EMC test processes

Role at Çimlen

He sits on the advisory board of the prototype workshop, introduces hardware startups to serial production suppliers and gives opinions on workshop machine investments. Before sessions a one-page agenda is requested and afterwards the actions are shared in writing; to meet, use the mentor meeting request form.

Mentoring topics

  • Moving to serial production
  • BOM cost
  • CE and EMC preparation
